Mechanical pencils and erasers. They come and go, generation after generation. Because they get lost at some point.
I used to count the generations of some everyday supplies such as soaps. And speak to them.
"Hi, Ivory II." "Hey, you're Ivory IX already! It's amazing how fast I use up you guys."
Wow. Never will my mind be that - sequential. I can't even keep track of what day it is.
I do cling on to mechanical pencils and fountain pens - well, I had to give up on using the fountain pens because I couldn't get bottles of ink in the U.S. But I still have the pens, years and years later. It's a very sad thing when a pen or pencil strays out of my life.
Even though by now I almost always write on the computer.
I see you feel connected to your writing devices too, heh..
I see the vision of you writing with a fountain pen, haha. It sounds so fit. Personally I'm too lazy to constantly take care of them properly, and I don't feel entitled to use fancy pens or pens that have old charm. lol. Too good for my craptastic handwriting.

Oh, and I can hardly even read my own handwriting anymore. Out of practice or something.
